"The dojang is for three activities: cleaning, meditating, and practicing. When one understands this, and acts on it, he or she is a good student." - -Grandmaster Kim S00
All students and parents are required to read the Dojang rules of conduct, and adhere to them at all times. There are no exceptions. Once you have read the rules, you will be responsbile for proper behavior toward the dojang, its instructors and fellow students. You will also need to keep a binder with class handouts in it for reference when practicing outside of class.

Black doboks are not allowed until yellow belt level.
Do not mix black and white dobok parts!
Black uniforms are more appropriate when teaching or judging; students should wear white.
Students should have thier name embroidered under the school patch on the left side of their dobok jacket.
The uniform is designed for freedom of movement, and should always be clean and odor free. Tattered or worn-out uniforms must be replaced.
The ankles and wrists should be exposed in attention stance; the elbows and knees should never be exposed. If your uniform is too long, it should be cut-off and hemmed. Until it can be hemmed, it should be folded up to expose the ankles and wrists.
DO NOT SAG your PANTS! You will be sent out of the dojang to correct your uniform, and will not be allowed back in until you are properly and respectfully dressed.
PATCHES Grandmaster believes "less is more" and prefers that uniforms be kept simple. The main School Patch should be on your left side (over your heart) with your name underneath.
The System Patch should be on the right side, opposite and level with the School Patch. Every student should know the history of the Chayon-Ryu system patch.
The back of the uniform should display the school emblem.
No other patches are allowed.
Official Chayon-Ryu uniforms and patches are sold at the world headquarters dojang store to members only.
Beginning in November you will be able to purchase patches from your branch school instructor. Students must wear a white dobok. See the student letter for details on where to shop.
The purpose of sparring pads is to protect you and your partner. Sparring without pads is not allowed.
Both arm and leg pads must be worn in order to participate in sparring exercises and free sparring.
Simple, cloth covered pull-on padding is adequate for this task.
Bulky, foam-style hand and foot gear (the kind which covers the entire hand or foot) is not allowed without special permission from Grandmaster.
This kind of equipment is designed for full contact and does not encourage caution or control.
They also invite injury by leaving the forearms and shins unprotected.
Grandmaster Kim Soo has laid out the rules for sparring in the dojang. All students are responsible for knowing the rules. The purpose of sparring in Chayon-Ryu is to help each other learn to apply techniques in practical application. It is not to win, or defeat your partner. It is not to score points. We do not spar for points. We do not allow full contact sparring.
We also recommend you read "The Mechanics of safe sparring" by Master Sean Kim (at the HQ members section).
Personal Hygiene
Always come to class in a clean, odor-free uniform. You should also be clean and odor-free yourself.
Don't think that since you will be getting sweaty in class that it's alright to show up for class already sweaty (or dirty). And always come to class with clean feet!
Don't think that as you'll be practicing bare-foot in class that it's alright to show up for class bare-foot to begin with. You just end up tracking in all sorts of dirt.
Come to the Dojang in your shoes, remove them for class, and put them back on when you leave. If you must leave the Dojang during class, put your shoes back on before you step out of the building.
And finally, remember to keep your fingernails, and toenails trimmed short to prevent injury to your partner as you exercise. For more on this see Dojang rules of conduct.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ:
Grandmaster Kim Soo's Address to students on attaining rank levels and certifications in Chayon-Ryu is a must read for all Chayon-Ryu students. Unlike any "McDojo" where you pay a fee and get a belt, Chayon-Ryu is a traditional martial arts education system, and ranks are earned based on many qualifications, of which physical skill and learning basic requirements is only the beginning. Character and attitude play a bigger role in ranking, because promoting higher ranking individuals who lack leadership skills or character is prohibited.
Tuksu Suryon and Black Belt Classes
Tuksu Suryon, "instructor training", is a specialized class given quarterly by Grandmaster Kim Soo to instructor level colored belts and black belts. As students become teaching assistants once they achieve the rank of 5th Gup Blue Belt, all students blue belt and above are required to attend these classes in order to qualify for rank promotion.
All black belts are required to take both sessions of these classes in order to qualify for promotion. Tuksu Suryon is the core of Chayon-Ryu instructor training, taught by the system founder, designed to teach martial arts teachers.
